We’ve all been there, staring at a blank screen and waiting for inspiration to strike. But when you’re running a business (or just trying to show up consistently online), content planning doesn’t need to be a time-suck. Here's my go-to method for planning a whole month of content in just 60 minutes—yep, even with a toddler tugging on your sleeve.
Pick Your Pillars (10 minutes)
Identify 4–5 content pillars your brand is built on. Think of these as your brand’s categories. What 3–5 topics do you consistently talk about? For most small businesses, this could be:
Your product or service
Behind-the-scenes
Education/tips
Lifestyle or personal content
Client testimonials or results
Brain Dump Topic Ideas (15 minutes)
Set a timer and go pillar by pillar. Don’t overthink, just brain dump. You want 3–5 post ideas per pillar, and you’ll have a month’s worth in no time
Choose Your Formats (10 minutes)
Now turn each idea into a format: carousel, photo, reel, quote graphic, mini blog, etc. Mix it up to keep your audience engaged and your feed fun.
Tip: One of the best things about blogs is how easily they can be repurposed. This single post? It could become a Reel, a carousel, and even an email!
Mark it into a Calendar (15 minutes)
Use a digital calendar, a planner, or even sticky notes, whatever works for you. Don’t aim for perfection, just make sure there’s a healthy mix of value, engagement, and promotion.
Tip: You don't need to post daily! Just try and stay consistent, 3–4x a week is golden.
Batch & Save (10 minutes)
Write out a few captions, take some photos, or record a few Reels while you’re already in the zone. It’ll make showing up so much easier, and the future you will thank you!
Remember
Content planning doesn’t have to be perfect or complicated; it just needs to be intentional. With this system, you’re not just saving time, you’re creating consistency, building trust, and giving your business the visibility it deserves.
